Claude Monet
1840 - 1926
Father of Impressionism
We owe one of his pictures the name of an art movement that left the most beautiful landscape paintings in history: the impressionism. Monet loved to paint outside. Like no other he was able to catch the magic of the moment in his paintings and fix it on canvas forever: sunbeams playing on gleaming water surfaces, light and shadow in the follage of trees or the shining colours of a summer garden.
